My Claude Code status line now runs as a mod, so I can finally see my limits in the desktop app

Reddit showcase of claude-dashboard v1.35, a Claude Code status line plugin turned mod that adds a dashboard pane and a band above the prompt input in the desktop app, with install commands and a GitHub repo.

About this mod

The author of claude-dashboard describes turning their status line plugin into a mod so the dashboard (context %, session cost, 5h/7d limits with reset countdown) is visible in the desktop app. /claude-dashboard-pane opens the dashboard in a pane next to the transcript and /claude-dashboard-band renders it above the prompt input, both customizable like the terminal status line. The mod builds the same stdin JSON a status line receives and runs the existing renderer. A v1.35.1 fix handles missing node in PATH on WSL by querying the login shell once and falling back to nvm/fnm/volta/Homebrew paths. Limitations: local sessions only, cloud sessions don't support panes/bands, and per-request cache tokens aren't exposed in the mod API. Install via /plugin marketplace add uppinote20/claude-dashboard, /plugin install claude-dashboard, /claude-dashboard:setup.

It shows context %, session cost, and the 5h / 7d limits with a countdown to reset. The one place I couldn't see it was the desktop app. When mods came out I got sidetracked and made a pixel pet first, but v1.35 finally does what I originally wanted. /claude-dashboard-pane opens the dashboard in a pane next to the transcript, and /claude-dashboard-band draws it right above the prompt input. Both can be customized the same way as the terminal status line, so you can pick a preset or your own widget lines for each. Under the hood the mod builds the same stdin JSON a status line gets and runs the existing renderer, so every widget, theme and language works without a second implementation. Then I shipped it and the pane was blank on my WSL setup. The terminal status line was fine, but every pane render failed with ENOENT: Executable not found in $PATH: "node". The desktop app starts the CLI without sourcing ~/.bashrc, and $.process.run execs directly with no shell, so a node installed through nvm just isn't there. v1.35.1 only reacts to that failure: it asks your login shell once, falls back to the usual nvm / fnm / volta / Homebrew paths, and remembers the answer for the session. About 4 seconds on my machine, once per session. If you're writing your own mod that shells out to node, you'll probably run into the same thing. It works in local sessions only. Cloud sessions in the desktop app don't seem to support panes or bands, and the mod API doesn't expose per-request cache tokens, so the last-request cache hit widget is hidden there. https://github.com/uppinote20/claude-dashboard /plugin marketplace add uppinote20/claude-dashboard /plugin install claude-dashboard /claude-dashboard:setup Setup asks whether you want the pane, the band, or both. submitted by /u/uppinote [link] [comments]
