effort-cycle: Alt+E Shortcut to Cycle Claude Code Effort Levels

The author released effort-cycle, a plugin that uses Alt+E / Alt+Shift+E to cycle Claude Code effort levels (low→max) and shows a colored level bar at the bottom.

About this mod

The author, tired of repeatedly typing /effort or opening the Alt+P selector to switch effort levels, built effort-cycle—a Claude Code plugin composed of function hooks that switches with a single keypress. Features: Alt+E cycles upward step by step (low, medium, high, xhigh, max), Alt+Shift+E cycles downward step by step; the footer shows the model and level with a cold-to-hot colored level bar (e.g., Opus 5.5 ▰▰▰▱▱ high); when max is reached, the model name turns red, and a light sweeps across the progress bar while Claude is working; less frequently used levels can be disabled in /config. The author used Claude Code with the plugin to write documentation and complete development, hot-reloading into a running session after changes, and ran claude plugin validate and claude plugin test. Limitations: mods are an early access API, tested only on Claude Code 2.1.283; the selected level is only effective for the current session; because mods cannot be modified, the spinner still shows Claude Code's own level. Free, MIT licensed.

Original text / README

I kept typing /effort or opening the Alt+P picker to switch effort, so I built effort-cycle, a small Claude Code mod (a plugin made of function hooks) that does it with one key. - Alt+E steps the effort up (low, medium, high, xhigh, max), Alt+Shift+E steps it down - The footer shows the model and level as a meter colored cool to hot: Opus 5.5 ▰▰▰▱▱ high - At max the model name turns red, and a light sweeps the bar while Claude works - /config has toggles to skip levels you never use How Claude helped: I built it with Claude Code. It used the plugin-authoring docs to write the hooks, hot-reloaded the mod into the running session after each change, and ran claude plugin validate and claude plugin test along the way. Limits: mods are an early-access API, tested on Claude Code 2.1.283. The level you pick lasts for the session only, and the spinner can still show Claude Code's own level because a mod can't change it. It's free and MIT licensed. Install: /plugin marketplace add Anerco/plugins /plugin install effort-cycle@anerco Repo, with a GIF of it running: https://github.com/Anerco/effort-cycle-mod submitted by /u/anerco [link] [comments]
