hud-desktop is an information-bar plugin above the input box on the Code page of the Claude desktop app; use the Rust status bar in the terminal. It shows the folder, running subagents (dots, grouped in fours), context usage, weekly allowance, cost, cache and activity; when there are no subagents, it shows none. It provides three layouts: dashboard (five rows, no cards, including cumulative token count and the most recent request), single line (only the most important information), and cards (four cards, the default). Use /hud 1, /hud 2 or /hud 3 to choose a layout; /hud without an argument rotates to the next one. The choice is stored in $.store and retained for the next session. To install, put this directory at ~/.claude/claude-hud/desktop and add CLAUDE_CODE_PLUGIN_DIRS pointing to it in the env section of ~/.claude/settings.json; use claude plugin validate . and claude plugin test . to check it. Note that the plugin is named hud-desktop; names beginning with claude- are reserved by Claude Code.
