I made a seven-game arcade above the Claude Code prompt, plus six small tools for long sessions

A Reddit user named caloripher shared a Claude Code mod that draws seven small games above the prompt—slot machine, Tamagotchi, Tetris, an octopus wrecking a city, Duck Hunt and more—triggered by events such as turn completion, tool failures and tool execution, with /arcade commands to switch or pin a game. It also includes six small tools for long sessions, such as a nearly-full context warning, a dash guard, protection against two sessions overwriting the same file, and buttons asking for shorter or plainer answers. The author says everything is free and open source, data stays local, and the installation command is in the first comment.

About this mod

This Reddit post introduces a Claude Code plugin that uses a terminal-rendering mod to show seven small games in real time above the prompt. The games are driven by Claude Code's actual work events: completing a turn pulls the lever on a slot machine, a failed tool call starts an Atari-style duel, a Tamagotchi gets hungry after sitting idle too long, each tool execution drops a Tetris piece, editing a file makes an octopus wreck a city, and Duck Hunt shoots down a duck when things go well. Non-programming events, such as sending mail or finishing a to-do list, count too. Each new terminal is randomly assigned a game. Use /arcade octopus to pin one, or /arcade rotate to rotate through them. The bundle also contains six small tools: a warning when context is nearly full, a guard that keeps dashes out of documents, protection against two sessions overwriting the same file at once, and buttons that ask for shorter or plainer answers. The author emphasizes that it is free and open source, data stays local, and the installation command is in the first comment.

Original text / README

I spend most of my day in Claude Code, and at some point I wanted the waiting to feel a bit more alive. When mods came out (plugins that can draw in the terminal), I started with a tiny dragon above the prompt that breathes fire when I commit. Then it got out of hand. There are seven little games now, and my actual work plays them. A finished turn pulls a slot machine lever. A failed tool lets the bug win an Atari style duel. A Tamagotchi gets hungry if I don't do anything for a while. Every tool Claude runs drops a Tetris piece. An octopus wrecks a city while Claude edits files, and in Duck Hunt the good moments shoot the ducks down. It counts non code stuff too, like sending an email or finishing a task list, which I liked because half my sessions aren't coding at all. Each new terminal gets one game at random. I mostly keep the octopus pinned (/arcade octopus), but /arcade rotate cycles them if you can't decide. Along the way I also made six small tools for my own long sessions: a warning before the context fills up, a guard that stops em dashes sneaking into my docs, one that stops two sessions overwriting the same file, and a couple of buttons to ask for a shorter or plainer answer. It's all free and open source, nothing leaves your machine. Built the whole thing with Claude Code. Install commands are in the first comment. Curious what you'd make with mods. submitted by /u/caloripher [link] [comments]
