About this mod
The author used Claude Code's function-hook API to build something completely unnecessary: a pixel pet that lives in a pane next to the session. It hops and blinks in a small yard, pauses and shows "..." when tools run, jumps up and says "nice work!" at the end of a turn, dozes off after about two minutes of quiet, and tears up when the rate limit window exceeds 80%. Use /pet pat to get hearts and purrs. It grows with you: tool calls, completed turns, pats, and output tokens grant experience (only output tokens count, because input and cache grow with conversation length rather than workload). Experience needed to level up is 25×n², reaching Lv 5 in one night, then slowing down. At Lv 15 it becomes a teenager with accessories, and at Lv 40 it evolves. It also develops a personality based on your usage: frequent tool use makes it a worker holding a notebook (swinging a pickaxe when adult), long turns make it a scholar, frequent pats make it a sweetheart, and frequently feeding it game snacks makes it a player, which is also the form it evolves into; one in twenty gets a rare form. The yard fills up accordingly, and follows your clock from morning sunlight to moon and stars. Occasionally completed turns drop gifts, and one in thirty-two new pets is a shiny version. There are also two mini-games, /pet play and /pet quest, to play while waiting for long tasks. There is no hunger, decay, or death—just to make the coding environment cozier. Supports eight small animals (cat, chick, dog, slime, rabbit, hamster, penguin, frog). The entire project is a register.tsx that responds to session events, drawn in the terminal with half-block characters, and SVG cards on desktop and mobile. The author spent about three days, 58 commits, and 19 PRs to complete it. mods AP
