Otto HUD
Otto, a blue octopus, forecasts your context window, above the prompt. A fork of Anthropic's Token Weather.
For now, in the Claude Code desktop app only; the terminal shows nothing.
- Otto is on the left and acts out what Claude is doing: scratching his head under a thought bubble, puzzled, or as a detective with cap and magnifier while it thinks; at a laptop or a retro computer while it runs tools; sunk and dejected, in a cloud of ink, or sulking under a passing crow when a tool fails; a light bulb, a jump, a dance or a twirl when the turn is done. At rest he now and then looks around, blows bubbles or twirls; he sits and waits while subagents work, and gets dizzy when compaction is near. Every animation starts from his rest pose, so he never jumps from one to the next. His tooltip says what Claude is doing. Otto is drawn in vectors, our own character.
/otto-hud demoplays every animation in turn, about 75 s, each with its tooltip;/otto-hud <animation>plays one (thinking,puzzled,detective,laptop,desktop,dejected,ink,crow,lightbulb,jump,dance,twirl,lookaround,bubbles,settle,dizzy).- Icons, details on hover: each block is an icon or a bar with the details in its tooltip, and as little text as possible.
- Forecast: a weather icon, Clear, Cloudy, Showers, Storm, Compact soon, by the share of the way to auto-compact (the original used the share of the window, so it said 81% when Claude Code said 90%); without auto-compact, by the share of the window. Beside it, the share of the context window used. The tooltip details both shares and the tokens used out of the window, then, after a blank line, what covers the sky (under a clear sky, what you see in it), the context's composition: a line per category (system prompt, tools, memory, skills, messages…) with its color, share and tokens. Local estimates (
summary), no token-count request. - Prompts: beside the forecast, a bar per recent prompt (up to 8) for the tokens it added, each as tall as its share of the largest, each in the tint of the forecast it left, the latest on the right and the earlier ones faded, and the last turn's change (+6.3k, −40k after a compaction, or =). Before the first turn is measured, faint stubs and a dash hold the same room, so the gauges never move.
- 5h / 7d: before the first reading, empty gauges and a dash hold their place. Then the share of your account's limits already used, solid; faded on, where you will be at the reset if you keep the same pace; a notch where the time stands. Green while the pace stays under the limit, yellow past it, red well past it or above 90% used. The tooltip says when you will run out at this pace, and when the limit resets. The latest reading is shared across your sessions.
- Narrow band: the least important blocks go first (the prompts, 7d, then 5h), never the forecast.
- Drawing: animated weather icons (Meteocons by Bas Milius, MIT) in the forecast's tint, rounded gauges.
- Language: English or French, in
/config(enorfr).autofollows Claude Code'slanguagesetting, else English.
Privacy
Reads $.session.usage(), watches turns and tool calls (only their names and whether they failed: it never changes a call or its result), reads Claude Code's language setting, and keeps the latest limits reading in the plugin's local storage. No network, no files, no commands, no environment variables: nothing leaves your machine, and nothing about you is collected.
